Greetings All! If you would like to book a show, please email at email@example.com
I did not know Eugene Burger (The distinguished person on my right) very well, he was one of my instructors at the McBride Mystery School in Las Vegas NV. He was very patient with me and he helped me connect the theater of magic to my act. I owe a great debt to his insight and instruction. Furthermore, I am touched by how deep he was spiritually and for me, that is a refreshing. I am thankful that I did cross paths with this great man and hope to meet him again.
Greetings one and all!
I am back with a new post for you to take a look at and I have to tell you that your eyes are not deceiving you, this is a Santa post! Why is it in July? There is a fairly new movement called “Christmas in July” which is an attempt to create an early festive attitude to influence flow traffic in stores. It also encourages an early festive attitude to celebrate! What is wrong with celebrating? Nothing! Some however would argue that this lessons the meaning of Christmas and it increases the commercialism and trivial aspects of the culture.
I sympathize with this position for personal religious reasons but I welcome the opportunity to represent Santa! Santa represents all that is good and epitomizes the message of the faith I adhere to. I am honored to represent any time and any where! If you would like additional samples, check out santaphil.weebly.com
July is full of magic shows as well and August is also almost full. Currently I am working to fill September and October and two weeks of November with shows because the last part of November and through December, I will be Santa Claus at the Baltimore Christmas Village! Check out some more pics
Glad to be back with you! I have been really hopping around to different states doing multiple tours and I captured some of my thoughts along the way and here are some for your viewing!
Quite a smattering, but it captures some of the essence of the pace that I have been going these past few months! In a couple of days, I will be heading back to that beautiful Old Virginia for a tour so I am hopping like a bug in frying pan.
The world of illusion is an ever expanding terrain. When I was young, I spent many hours honing the craft to the point that I had plateaued in my learning because I was not aware of other resources, nor did I possess the creativity to innovate. It was not until I became an adult that I experimented with bolder options of handling, sleights, and routines. Furthermore, I still am working at being more than just proficient in the field, but also specializing. What I mean is that recently, I have been approached by various clients to do close up magic. One is a repeat client who has seen my work before close up. I typically do not like doing card magic, but that is what I am most skilled. With this in mind, I have taken a different look at this and have embraced that I do card magic both stage and close up and that I need to have a command on the 52 (54 if you count the jokers) paste boards as a means of self bettering in my career. It is a learning curve that I never expected and frankly, it is very exciting! I will keep you posted!
Glad to be with you again and I am so happy that I am able to keep on doing what I am doing as an entertainer in the magic industry. Here is a quick video of what I have been up to, especially following the storm of Stella!
Check out this video of when I recently performed on Broadway in New York. No, it really is on Broadway!
Hope you liked it, and will post again next week! Keep a weather eye!
Check out this retro video!

Greetings Everyone viewing!
2017 is off with a bang as I introduce the new show called “Magical Flight of Fancy”! It is a very awesome show filled with the large props that I love, live birds and a live bunny! Plus, I have included some extra surprises as well. I am shortly going to include a routine I call “Stumpo the Wonder Elephant” in honor of the bi-gone era of the circus as well as re-introducing some routines I have not performed in quite a while, but fitting for this particular set! I am very excited about this as I am also featuring a newer look and feel to the act and it is really coming along nicely!
To get this ready, I had to do something that I was not looking forward to and haven’t done in quite a while; I had to clean the equipment. I mean, I really cleaned it and did some necessary repairs that took quite a long time the other day! I finished up and then tackled the animals and the additional training needed for the new show ( as well as a nice clean to the cages ). Then, it was dressing up the rest of the scripting for the show!
January and February are normally slow months but since we had a good head start, I was able to do some needed maintenance as I expect that the schedule is going to be packed very soon. Indeed, I already have been getting bookings for the spring months and I will be doing more and more tours leading into the summer and before we get to the end of the season! Before you know it, we will be ready for the holidays again!
That is how we roll here at Crosson Magic! We are starting to roll and we will let you know when we will be in your area!!
So long for now!!
Greetings again everyone reading!!
I am back on the road again today to do a local magic show for some senior citizens and I am in the process of beginning to break in my new 2017 show called “Magical Flight of Fancy” which features some old and new (for me) material that is sure to bring a smile to the face!
I recently bought a sketch book because when I was performing as Santa during the 2016 holiday, I met a very interesting photographer that also took with him a sketch book. He actually had two of them. He was very attached to those sketch books that he even named them! Alas, I forgot the names, but the idea inspired me to pick up the drawing hobby again and I must say that I am very thankful that I haven’t forgotten all of my techniques. It is very relaxing and I have narrowed my subject matter for the time being. I am sketching parlor/stage magicians and Santa, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather boring to some and that is why I keep the sketching to…myself. But it is a way of unwinding after a long hard day or two on the road! I make it a point to sketch what I am interested in and that helps me keep focus. The stress of money and work take a much needed back seat during those sessions of listening to Mozart, and sketching. I try to do this before I go to sleep but sometimes, as is the case with show business, you have to make the most of the little time you have during busy times.
Speaking of that, Let me share with you a little blast from the past
Now as I am about to embark out…I go from this:
with great joy and anticipation for 2017! Happy New Year!!
I know, I know, Christmas is over and now it is time to move on to the new year of 2017! But I thought I would start by showing you a small sample of what I did and why I have been so late in posting on the blog!
I played Jolly ole Saint Nick throughout the months of November and December and I was literally unavailable for anything else. I spent a considerable time in Baltimore MD appearing at the Christmas Village and here is a sample pic
If you would like to see more pics, you can find it on my Facebook page. Some pics are quite telling!
I was very tired after that run but I had to get right back on the road to conclude the year by doing some magic shows in upstate New York.
I recently returned from these engagements and have been catching up on some needed office work and have concluded that 2016 was certainly a better year financially than 2015! I invested a lot more into replacing items such as the car, and props, and other business related things, but over all, a much better year!
I will post more in a couple of day! Keep a weather eye!!
According to the Webster’s Dictionary, the word “Prolific” means to produce a large quantity of something. That said, I have also heard (and believe) that David Copperfield is the most prolific magician in the world today. In other words, he does more shows than anyone.
This is not to take away from the business of other lesser named entertainers such as myself, it just means that David Copperfield really does work for what he has and what he desires and that is encouraging to me!
As I write this, I am getting ready for a doctor check-up and needed vaccination shots for the holiday season as I am going to be around a lot of children when I play Santa in Baltimore MD. I am not nervous about the shots (“Is that your shortest needle?! I did it! I took the Linbergh baby, I am Joseph Mengele!!” Ernest P. Worrell) but it does illustrate the lengths that I am willing to go through to make sure that everyone is happy and entertained. The sacrifices are great, but in the end (I hope that is not where I am getting them) it is worth it all!
I am about to turn a half a century. 50 years on this planet, and it seems as though time has sped up at warp speed. My complaint about this is that I am realizing that I am in a race to get done what I need to and it is hectic.
Let me tell you, I have been getting my “Howling Halloween Magic Show” out of moth ball and cleaning things up because this weekend will be the first of the season.
Funny how one season ends and another is already on the way. That is the nature of the business. Anyway, this show has lots of fun displays like the famous Siberian Shackle escape and other tributes to the greatest escape artist that ever lived. The “Howling Halloween Magic Show” has something for everyone who likes both the creepy and the comical. I am pretty booked up for the month of October and that of course, is something that puts a very big sigh of relief on me.
Obviously, later November is booked solid but I still have some slots that I need to fill in the first two weeks so that I will go on the extended tour with a warm feeling in my heart that I have done the very best I can at being not only a great magician, but prolific (There is that magic word again)
I want to be known by my peers and the general public as being the real deal in quality magical entertainment. What I mean is that when I perform at Coney Island, many of my peers will ask where my travels will take me in the coming week and those same peers will be astounded that I put up with so much to get the job done. Headaches such as traffic, excessive travel and wear and tear on both body and equipment and the list goes on. But here is the secret to the insanity: I have mouths to feed and it motivates me. It is like what the late great Harry Blackstone said at an interview ” My wife and my banker tell me that when I am not on the the road, I am unemployed.” When I heard that, I internalized that and have used that as my motivation. The second secret and probably the most obvious, be good at what you do. Don’t cut corners in quality. There is a saying; “pack small, play big” that is good advice if you are challenged space wise in preparation and travel but it can be an excuse to cut corners in quality. I refuse to do this. I work very hard to give the best quality; if it means large props, live birds and a live critter with long ears at the end? You got it!! I also dress in tails with a top hat and leave us not forget the cane. I don’t short cut on personality either, to me, it is not just about the trick as it is about the experience and so, I bring my stunning personality to bear making the magic happen both large and small scale!
So then, how does one like me, become prolific? the answer is simple but the method is hard. It is said by many to work smarter not harder. Well, in this business, both are needed. When I broke in, I worked very hard to get work, but was not confident in my quality. Consequently, I undercut my value. I booked a lot of shows, because hey, I was a real bargain!! But I lost money. I worked hard but stupid. I had to learn about quality and value to make those adjustments.
On the other hand, one show cannot pay for a week off of work, generally speaking. What I mean is that working smarter doesn’t mean working less, (unless you are not like me), it means making better business choices that benefit both the client and the vendor; i.e. WIN WIN!
I average about 350 shows a year. This is provable by the way! Although many say they perform 350 shows a year (which is a lot) I actually do. In fact, my personal record was 400 shows back in 2010.
Some additional things to be on the look out for: Activity Directors!! Check out www.crossonmagic-seniors.weebly.com for updates concerning our 2017 show called “Magical Flight of Fancy” New routines and themed to send your seniors souring with delight!
County Fair Directors, and entertainment coordinators, I will see you at the PSACF convention in January!
If you would like to check me out in Maryland during the holidays, I will be appearing as Santa at the Christmas Village at Inner Harbor from Thanksgiving to Christmas eve! Bring your family and enjoy the displays and gifts you can purchase this holiday season!
